Former Kilmarnock Manager Hired in NC

"The rest of the story" per Lara Burleson's resignation from the town of Kilmarnock:

From Tedd Povar, UVa Institute of Government

According to the local press in North Topsail Beach, NC, Lara Burleson has taken the job of local government manager there. She recently resigned from Kilmarnock, VA, a position she'd held for about a year. She was selected from among 80 applicants and was in the top five.

She was quoted as saying, "I'm very excited about coming to North Topsail Beach. I had some very lengthy interviews, and I'm coming into it with my eyes open ... I know there are issues that need to be overcome given high employee turnovers, but it's nothing we can't overcome."

Before taking the Kilmarnock job, she served as assistant town manager and community development director for the town of Rocky Mount, VA. She'd also served with the U.S. Coast Guard for 12 years, and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard's Officer Candidate School. She has a master's in public administration from Virginia Tech University and received her bachelor's degree in government administration from Christopher Newport University. She has a nine year old son.

She will start in her new post in February 2009 and will earn $92,500, according to the press report.
