Jerry Gwaltney (former Danville CM) hired to run Halifax County in interim

- From the South Boston News & Record

Halifax County Supervisors on Thursday afternoon announced they have hired Jerry L. Gwaltney, a former Danville City Manager to serve as Halifax County’s interim County Administrator. The Board will pay Gwaltney $13,500 per month for his four month contract.
Gwaltney’s primary responsibilities will be to serve as county administrator for four months and to perform a search for a permanent administrator to take over the reins from him after the four month period. He begins his work here on Jan. 1.
Gwaltney is also being asked to assist with economic development and to assess the efficiency of the County’s current operations.
Gwaltney, who retired in June from his position with the City of Danville after eight and a half years of service there, had earlier this summer been hired by the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority to lead the search for a new IDA executive director. Following his recommendation, the IDA hired Michael Sexton who began his work here on Dec. 1.
The Supervisors’ action in naming Gwaltney to the temporary post came after a nearly two hour long closed session on Thursday afternoon.
