Max Bornstein, the Director of Prince George Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management has announced he will retire after almost 29 years of full time service to the Tri-City Area as a career fire and emergency medical service provider.
“Max Bornstein has served the citizens of Prince George County for more than 35 years, first as a dedicated volunteer and later as the director of county fire and EMS operations,” said John G. Kines, Jr., county administrator.
“He has been a faithful public servant who has made invaluable contributions to the public safety of our community.
“We thank him for a job well done and wish him the very best during his retirement,” said Kines.
Director Bornstein began his career in 1980 with the city of Petersburg as a firefighter and progressed to the rank of captain within five years. He was instrumental in establishing the EMS program within the city of Petersburg Fire Department as the EMS Coordinator. Director Bornstein was also responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the department’s safety, health, and physical program.
In 2002, after 22 years with Petersburg, Mr. Bornstein came back to his roots in Prince George County as the deputy director of Prince George Fire Services. He began his fire and EMS service with the Prince George County in 1972 by joining the Disputanta Volunteer Fire Department where he served at all rank levels including chief of the department. He later joined the Prince George Emergency Crew and again served in all leadership roles, including captain and executive officer until he began his tenure as an employee of the county. Director Bornstein is still an active life member of the emergency crew.
