RICHMOND SHERIFF WOODY PARTNERS WITH THE MCSHIN FOUNDATION TO START THE MCCOVERY PROGRAM

Richmond's Sheriff C.T. Woody, Jr. announced today the development of a partnership with the McShin Foundation to assist our jail residents in their efforts to end substance abuse. This partnership will enable 120 residents to enroll in the “McCovery Program.”

John Shinholser, The McShin Foundation’s founder and CEO, and his team will take the recovery message straight to the residents in a jail tier that has been designated just for this program. The McShin Foundation provides 12 step recovery information from Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, Couples Anonymous and other highly regarded resources.

Sheriff Woody said, “I am pleased to welcome The McShin Foundation’s McCovery Program into the Richmond City Jail. The collaborative partnership will enable those who have been waiting to receive substance abuse treatment an opportunity to get help.” Woody continued, “As I have said before, I want to make the residents of the Richmond City Jail better citizens than criminals. This program is an indication of what can happen when the community and law enforcement officials are working towards the same goal.”

Mr. Shinholser said, “Sheriff C.T. Woody’s profound ability to identify valuable community resources to assist in reducing recidivism strikes again. Sheriff Woody was able to enlist (at no cost to the tax payers) the most unique, authentic peer delivered substance use disorder recovery program perhaps in the country.”
