Chesapeake Holds Tire Amnesty Program

March 6, 2009

The city of Chesapeake will hold a tire amnesty program, March 2-28, and two tire drop off days in order to help eradicate mosquito breeding grounds. The drop offs are set for Saturday, March 14, at Western Branch High School, 1968 Bruin Place; and Saturday, March 28, at Chesapeake City Park off Greenbrier Parkway. Both events will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During the month, Chesapeake residents are asked to stack any old, unused tires at the curb with their trash collection, up to two tires per week. Participants of the drop offs must show a driver’s license or proof of Chesapeake residence. All tires should be no larger than 20 inches, and must be off the rim and clean. There is a limit of ten tires per person at the drop offs. Commercial businesses are not permitted to participate in the tire amnesty program.
