Williamsburg Names New Parks Director

August 1, 2009

Lori Rierson Appointed Director of Parks & Recreation

The city of Williamsburg has announced that Lori
Rierson will be the director of parks & recreation for the city
effective August 1, 2009. Rierson, the deputy director of the
department since 2002, succeeds Paul Hudson, who retired this month.

“I am really excited about this opportunity to continue the tradition
of excellence, personalized attention, and quality programming that the
city’s parks and recreation department is known for,” said Rierson.
“Paul Hudson has left in place a terrific team and state of the art
facilities. I’m looking forward to the challenge of finding new ways
to empower the staff to provide the highest quality service and expand
outreach to our community.”

Rierson is a graduate of Radford University with a B.S. in recreation
administration, and joined the department right after graduation in
1981. She began as a program director and was promoted to deputy
director in 2002. She has overseen the introduction and expansion of
the use of technology in addition to developing programming for all
ages.

“Lori Rierson has been a leader in parks & recreation programming for
many years,” said Jack Tuttle, Williamsburg City Manager. “Her
strong managerial skills and her commitment to the community make her
the right person to maintain the high standards we have now and
challenge us to be even better in the future.”

Rierson received the city’s leadership award in 2005 and the
excellence in service award in 2006. She played an active role in the
development of the Waller Mill Dog Park and the Great City Walks walking
brochure.

Rierson has one daughter, Amber, who lives in Northern Virginia and is
pursuing a graduate degree at George Mason University.
