Hampton Receives Awards in Print and Video

The City of Hampton’s Media & Community Relations (MCR) department was recently chosen as a recipient of the 2009 Communicator Awards, 2009 Videographer Awards, and the 2009 APEX Awards. The office received the following awards:
• Silver Communicator Award – Hampton City Channel print ads
• Silver Communicator Award – “Spotlight on Citizens”
• Videographer Award of Distinction – “Spotlight on Citizens”
• APEX Award of Excellence – Hampton Communications Plan

The Hampton City Channel ads are part of a monthly advertising campaign aimed at establishing a distinct identity for the station and educating the public on the variety of programs airing each month. The ads are written and designed by MCR staff and appear in the Daily Press. “Spotlight on Citizens” is a monthly program designed to provide Hampton City Council members the opportunity to recognize outstanding citizens, businesses, and organizations within the community. The annual Communications Plan establishes goals and initiatives relating to internal and external communications, community and media relations, emergency management, video production, marketing, and diversity education.

The Communicator Awards is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation only body consisting of professionals from media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing firms.

The Videographer Awards recognize production and communication professionals whose work exceeds industry standards. There were approximately 1,800 entries from the U S and several other countries. The Videographer Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.
