To mark the 50th anniversary of the statewide end of Massive Resistance, the UVa Center for Politics will host a special conference at the Virginia Capitol Building in Richmond, VA on Friday, July 17, 2009.
The public is invited to join speakers and special guests to mark this installment of the Virginia Political History Project that will assemble students, journalists, elected officials, and civil rights leaders to offer their personal perspectives on this tumultuous time in Virginia's past.
The conference will explore the effects and legacies of Massive Resistance and will feature real stories from Virginians who were directly impacted by this policy.
The keynote address will be given by the Honorable L. Douglas Wilder, former Governor of Virginia.
