The following is sent on behalf of VLGMA President Elect Peter Stephenson:
VLGMA and ICMA Partner to Offer First Time Attendee Scholarships to
ICMA Conference in Montreal, Quebec
The Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) have partnered to offer seven (7) scholarships to the 95th Annual Conference in Montreal, Quebec, September 13th-16th. The scholarship recipients will receive a complimentary conference registration from ICMA ($625 value for ICMA members and $1,025 for nonmembers) and VLGMA will fund $700 toward the recipient’s travel expenses.
To qualify for the scholarship you must be a member of VLGMA and be a first time attendee of the ICMA Annual Conference. All eligible VLGMA members are encouraged to apply for one of these seven scholarships. Please note that a US Passport is required now for travel to and from Canada.
Don’t wait if you are interested and wish to take advantage of this special offer. Scholarships will be awarded by VLGMA purely on a first come first served basis. Send an email requesting a VLGMA/ICMA conference scholarship to Janet Areson, VLGMA Executive Secretary at jareson@vml.org.
The preliminary conference program will be mailed out to ICMA members in late May. The same detailed information contained in the conference preliminary program will also be available at http://icma.org/conference2009. Recipients of the scholarships will NOT be able to register for the conference online, but will need to send a scanned or faxed version to Sallie Burnett (sburnett@icma.org; fax: (864) 278-0243).
The housing bureau opens simultaneously with online conference registration on June 1st. Note ICMA members will not receive a housing form in the ICMA Newsletter this year. Further, scholarship recipients will be required to reserve accommodations at one of the conference block hotels, which you may book online through the housing bureau.
This year’s ICMA Annual Conference in Montreal combines a cost-effective, high-quality professional development opportunity; networking; and information sharing – now when you need them most – with the cosmopolitan sights, sounds and attractions of a truly international destination.
Join me and other VLGMA members at the 2009 ICMA Annual Conference!
