On April 30th Sheriff Woody announced the retirement of Ed Rollins, director of education for the Sheriff’s Office since 1973.
Sheriff Woody stated, “Mr. Rollins has been committed and has dedicated his career to helping jail residents complete their education requirements, receive their GED, and develop new skills.”
Earlier this year Mr. Rollins and his department were recognized for their accomplishments by the Richmond City Council. In honor of all his efforts, Sheriff Woody has renamed the Education Department “The Ed Rollins School of Learning and Discovery”, and April 30th, henceforth, will be “Ed Rollins Day”.
When asked about his time with the Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Rollins stated, “While a large part of my job was spent teaching life skills, I’ve often thought that perhaps the most important thing I could do was to remind people that they are good. Sometimes good people make poor choices.”
Mr. Rollins and Judith, his wife of 21 years, live in Hanover County. Ed plans on spending his time traveling, gardening and using his Apple™ Computer.
