Acting unanimously at their regular meeting on February 2, 2009, the Louisa County Board of Supervisors appointed County Attorney Dale G. Mullen to the position of county administrator.
Mr. Mullen had been serving as interim county administrator since January 1, 2009, and had been tasked with fulfilling the duties required for both positions.
“I am pleased to be working on behalf of the citizens of Louisa County in whatever capacity I am needed.” Mullen said. “I especially enjoy working with other professionals to provide reliable and cost effective government services.”
Mr. Mullen joined Louisa County in September 2008, after serving as a chief prosecutor and Special Assistant United States Attorney with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. Dale's leadership of the five regional offices investigating waste, fraud and abuse in the federal health care system adds to an impressive resume that includes service in the United States Navy, representation of businesses and individuals in the private sector, legislative experience and a decade of service as a decorated police detective in the Richmond Police Department.
Board Chairman Willie L. Harper said, “Dale brings an enthusiasm for efficiency in government and a business sense to the position that a growing county really needs in tough economic times. Dale is a triple threat; he understands finance, he understands law and he understands leadership. Dale has all of the crucial skills and knows how responsive and responsible government is supposed to work."
As county administrator, Mr. Mullen is the chief administrative officer of a county with approximately 1,000 employees. The county administrator leads the daily operations of the county and serves as a liaison between public officials, staff, and citizens to accomplish the goals and objectives set by the board of supervisors.
Supervisor Fitzgerald Barnes (Patrick Henry District) said, "Dale has great communication skills and a real understanding of how to blend a vibrant business community without taking anything away from the important rural, historical and agricultural aspects of Louisa County."
Vice Chairman Willie Gentry (Cuckoo District) added, "This is the most positive hiring move Louisa County could make right now. The citizens and the board are fortunate to have Dale on our team. He is a motivated leader with a proven record in business, law and government and just the right person to help the board of supervisors guide Louisa County in difficult economic times."
Mullen’s appointment as county administrator is effective immediately.
