Fredericksburg Mayor Tom Tomzak announced January 15 that the city council hired Tonya B. Lacey of Spotsylvania as its clerk of council. The council unanimously appointed Mrs. Lacey during its regular business meeting on January 13.
Mrs. Lacey is a 17 year employee of the city of Fredericksburg. She previously served as secretary to the city manager and deputy clerk of city council.
Mrs. Lacey was hired by Fredericksburg in 1992 as a receptionist in the city manager’s office. She moved to the planning department as a secretary in 1999, where she was promoted to secretary to the city manager and deputy clerk in 2002. Tonya is a 1991 graduate of James Monroe High School.
“Tonya is well aware of the function of the city council and brings a wealth of experience having served as the deputy clerk for the past seven years. Tonya is a welcome asset to the city council.” Mayor Tomzak said.
The clerk of council is primarily responsible for recording and preserving all official actions of the city council and handling Freedom of Information requests.
Mrs. Lacey succeeds Mrs. Mary C. Smith, who resigned on January 2.
